The Spanish Turespaña cancels its participation in the Moscow tourism fair

Spain’s official tourism institute, Turespaña, has canceled its participation in this year’s Moscow Tourism Fair.

Turespaña usually participates in the International Travel and Tourism Fair in Moscow, which is the most important tourism fair in Russia and is an important opportunity for Spain to present what it has to offer as a tourist destination and d establish contacts with other professionals and potential clients.

Following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and the evolution of the conflict, Turespaña has decided to cancel all its promotional activity in Russia, including the MITT fair.

An official statement on the government website said:

“Spain, like the EU, condemns the unjustified and cruel aggression against Ukraine decreed by President Putin and demands the withdrawal of Russian troops from all Ukrainian territory as an essential condition for the lifting of the sanctions imposed, which include, among other things, the closure of European airspace to Russian airlines.

“As a permanent member of the board of directors of the European Tourism Commission (ETC), Turespaña is in coordination with this association and the other national tourist offices that are part of it. The ETC issued a statement condemning Russia and expressing solidarity with the Ukrainian people, stressing that tourism is a tool for peace and mutual understanding.

“While waiting for the evolution of the war and its impact on the flow of tourists over the next few months, the Spanish government, through Turespaña, is working to find alternatives to a possible absence of Russian tourists this high season in our destinations which have the most ties to this market.

Turespaña, from its Moscow office, informed all attendees of the show of this decision.
