South Africa to soon launch electronic visa service for Indian travelers

The South African Tourism Board recently said it forecast a 64% year-on-year growth in arrivals from India this year. To capitalize on the strong consumer demand in the country, they have started taking various marketing initiatives.

The board, in a statement, said India continues to be one of its key target markets, for which it has set out a strategic roadmap to target related results.


Reports say that as part of post-pandemic recovery plans, South Africa will soon introduce electronic visas for Indians to attract more tourists, filmmakers and business travellers. Referring to this, the Head of South African Tourism Hub (MEISEA) said, “We are pleased to announce that we are on track to roll out e-Visas to India in the coming months.”

Reports have also indicated that the destination is also prioritizing tourist visas. The board said India was the eighth largest international source market for South Africa and it expects India to also maintain its position in the top 10 this year.

According to reports, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Pune continue to be major outbound markets from India to South Africa. Currently, there are several stopover flights connecting India with South Africa, including Etihad, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Air Arabia, Kenya Airways and Air Mauritius.

Regarding travel rules to follow when traveling to South Africa, travelers from India will be required to produce a negative PCR test, which is not older than 72 hours from the time of travel. departure from the country of origin to South Africa, as indicated by the tourist office.
