Delhi Airport installs electronic boarding gates for seamless travel

New Delhi: Delhi Airport has implemented electronic boarding gates at all three terminals for passengers flying out of the city for contactless and smooth travel amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said that as a result of the Digital India government campaign, DIAL, led by GMR, has deployed an electronic boarding facility to enable faster and more transparent passenger processing at departure on all flights.

“All boarding gates have contactless electronic boarding gates with boarding pass scanners, which will allow passengers to flash their physical or electronic boarding passes to verify flight details and once done. done, they can proceed with security checks. Electronic doors are enhanced by contactless technologies. Passengers who have verified their boarding passes by scanning them at the electronic gates can simply walk past the electronic boarding gates for security checks and then board a flight without having to show their documents again, ”DIAL said. .

Electronic boarding gates have been installed at terminals 3 and 2 and deployment is underway at terminal 1. These electronic gates allow passengers carrying large baggage / passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) to pass through them easily, passengers carrying only hand luggage can pass through electronic gates on normal lanes, DIAL added.

The non-contact procedure not only minimizes the touch of facility surfaces and the interaction of people under COVID-19, but also shortens boarding time.

The facility has reduced transaction time by 50%, which has reduced queues, and also improved the security aspect where boarding pass details are verified with the company’s back office Aerial.

Commenting on this development, Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO of DIAL, said: “DIAL is constantly looking to improve the passenger experience. However, the onset of the global pandemic has made it more difficult to meet travelers’ expectations as health and safety concerns have increased. DIAL rose to the challenge and set a benchmark with several innovative solutions in place, with electronic boarding gates being one of the unique technological solutions installed at the airport. DIAL’s internal team carried out several tests at Delhi Airport, taking into account COVID-19 guidelines issued by various government agencies. Our sole objective is to ensure the safety of our passengers at all costs. “
