When you imagine iconic London, you think of several things: red telephone boxes, Big Ben, Downing Street and… black taxis.
Usually at Euronews Travel we don’t encourage you to take a taxi in London – especially when the public transport network is so good. But now, if you need to take a taxi in London, it doesn’t have to be expensive.
Hail an electric black cab in London
The London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) has developed the most advanced system in the world electric taxi, the TX. They are already 5,000 wandering the streets of Londonwhich accounts for a third of all taxis in London.
Although they now feature a glass roof panel to enhance your touring experience and integrated retractable mobility ramps, the TXs have retained the classic black cab look.
Since their introduction in London in 2018, the British-made taxis have covered around 494 million kilometers and avoided the emission of 109,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere compared to their petrol or diesel counterparts.
The TX Taxi’s ultra-advanced eCity technology provides a range of over 103 km using only electricity. It has an extended range of 512 km when used as a hybrid.
If necessary, the TX battery can be quickly recharged via a 50kW charger to 80% capacity in about 30 minutes.
“It’s by far the best taxi I’ve ever driven, it’s so smooth, quiet and much cheaper to use,” says Texas taxi driver Peter Powell.
