Expedia shared her best tips and tricks to help you go on vacation for less in 2022.

Like Mid term, Easter and the Summer holidays are running to us, more and more of us are scouring airlines and travel websites looking for a bargain.

The online travel agency has partnered with Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) for the seventh consecutive year to share its ultimate guide to travel hacks.

“As travelers continue to plan their future trips, we want to help make the process as easy as possible, while helping them save a few extra pounds on the way,” Niamh Jenkinson, PR manager for the brand Expedianoted.

Expedia’s Best Flight Booking Hacks

Flights bottomed out in December 2020 and January 2021, according to ARC data.

As traveler confidence grows, they seem poised to return to pre-pandemic levels.

Luckily for you, you can prepare for the raise with these Expedia flight hacks.

1. Optimal booking window

The British have started booking their inner journeys further in advance.

Flights booked 9 weeks or more in advance increased from an average of 20% in 2019 to an average of 25% in 2021.

For international flights, travelers book their tickets 9 weeks or more in advance increased from an average of 40% in 2019 to an average of 45% in 2020 and 50% in 2021.

2. Ideal day of the week to book

Expedia revealed that the perfect day to book a domestic flight is Sunday, not Friday, where travelers can save around 20%.

For those fly internationally, they can save 15% by booking on a Sunday instead.

3. Ideal day of the week for traveling

The perfect day for travel within the country is Friday not Tuesday, and it could save you 20%.

Through start your international trip on a Friday, not a Wednesday, you could save 10% on your reservation.

4. Best month to travel

The best month to travel depends on where you are fly home or abroad.

For domestic flightsthe best month to go is November, you can save up to 45% compared to a trip in March.

For international flightsSeptember is the ideal month, where you can save almost 40%, compared to a trip in December.

5. Splurge and go for the premium

expedia says this premium economy class tickets have never been cheaper and have become more affordable over the past two years.

In 2021, premium tickets were only 250% more expensive than economy class tickets, while in 2020 premium tickets cost 275% more than economy class tickets.

Looking at pre-pandemic levels, premium tickets in 2019 cost 380% more than economy tickets.

1. Ideal day of the week to book

Book your domestic vacation on a Friday since that is when the lowest average daily rate (ADR) tends to be.

Travelers could save 5% compared to booking the most expensive day, which is a Sunday.

Internationally, book a wednesdaynot on a Saturday, to save 5%.

2. Ideal day of the week to stay

The perfect day for start your stay is a Monday, you could save 20% compared to the most expensive day – a Saturday.

For international travelstarting your vacation on a Monday can save you 10% compared to a Saturday.

3. Downgraded accommodation to save money

Expedia recommends down-star on your hotel to save a few extra pounds.

You can save nearly 50%, on average, by opt for a 4-star establishment more than a 5 star.

And if you book a 3 star hotel instead of a 4 star you could save about 30%.

4. Car rental

The travel website also noted a trend of even more people opting for road trips since the start of the pandemic.

Expedia looked at its data to help you book a car rental for less.

If you are book a car for explore staycation, we recommend you book it on a monday.

For international holidays, you should book a rental car on a Saturday to save you some money.

The website also suggests that the cheapest day for domestic car rental is a Tuesday, while a Sunday is the best day for international travel.

5. Bundle and save

On average, Britons can save up to 10% by combine flight and hotel in a transaction, it’s money that can go to other experiences.
