There is something to be thankful for right now in the travel world. The world is opening up, security measures are in place and the “new normal” has started to take hold. And thanks to Richard Branson’s launch of his “new” private island, it has become much easier for luxury travelers to vacation like a billionaire, even if only for a few days. Moskito Island is now open for vacation rentals.
Branson opened his “new” private island right across from his famous Necker Island this fall. Located in the British Virgin Islands, Moskito is 125 acres of paradise. The island has ten estates and it is now possible to rent a few.
Getting to Moskito Island
For the most part, the easiest way to get to Moskito Island is to fly to Tortola (Beef Island), accessible via a 35-minute flight from San Juan or a 1-hour and 20-minute flight from Antigua on Cape Air or Tradewind Aviation.
From Tortola, you will then board a 30-minute boat to access the island. The Moskito team will organize this for all guests and is included in the rental rates. Moskito is also a 10 minute boat ride from Virgin Gorda and the team can pick you up there as well. However, if you want to maximize your time on the island, Moskito is also accessible by helicopter from Tortola, Virgin Gorda, St. Thomas, San Juan, and many other nearby islands. So, depending on what you have in store at the start and end of your Moskito trip, there are plenty of ways to get to where you need to be – the island is remote but certainly accessible.
The estates on Moskito
Currently there are three areas available for vacation rental. The Branson Estate, the Oasis Estate and the Point Estate. Everyone’s style varies widely and one may be better suited to your group than another. Let’s explore each area.
The Branson estate
Named after its famous owner, the Branson Estate is located at the northeastern tip of Moskito Island and is perfect for families and groups of friends looking to get away from it all. The luxury accommodation has a total of 11 bedrooms, accommodating up to 22 people. Split between Headland House, Mangrove Villas, and Beach Villas, all guests will enjoy spectacular views and each area has its own kitchen, living room, infinity pool and hot tub.
The Branson Estate also has its own private beach and oceanfront dining area called The Cove. It is the perfect place to have breakfast each morning and sunset drinks in the evening. The Branson Estate was the first to be built on the island and was completed last year.
The Oasis Estate
Grab all your friends and get ready to party at Oasis Estate. This property is located at the highest point of the island and offers panoramic views of the Caribbean and surrounding islands. The estate’s contemporary design evokes the intersection of Miami and Malibu, while embracing the unspoiled nature of the BVI.
Designed for entertaining, the four-story main house features floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and windows creating seemingly limitless indoor-outdoor spaces. The main house has six bedrooms, including a Master Suite with a 270 degree view and a magnificent terrace with an ocean view; there are also three additional poolside villas, offering a total of nine bedrooms for 18 people. Each room has its own private balcony or terrace, separate living room, kitchenette and private bathroom.
The Domaine de la Pointe
The third domain currently available for rent is the Point domain. This property is located on the southwest side of the island. Overlooking Manchioneel main beach on the island and neighboring Virgin Gorda, the Point Estate is perched on turquoise waters and offers several individual hillside villas and a spacious main house. Perched on the edge of the cliff, the Point Panoramic Pool is where you’ll want to savor the sunset every day.
There are eight bedrooms, including an eight-bunk children’s bedroom in the main house, and can comfortably accommodate up to 22 people. Perfect for large families, the Point offers privacy, spectacular views and quiet elegance.
What to do on Moskito Island
In addition to all the amenities of each area, there is also a range of common areas on the island for all guests.
On the east side of the island, the Beach House is the center of the recreation area with direct access to a sandy beach and the island’s water sports. There is also a tennis court, dining pavilion and other entertainment pavilions located nearby.
Mountain biking, tennis, sailing, kite surfing / kite boarding, stand up paddleboarding (SUP), water skiing, wake boarding, snorkeling and scuba diving are all available and estate concierges will help guests set up these experiences – spa treatments can also be arranged to take advantage of each area as well.
The Branson, Oasis and Point estates are now all available for booking through Virgin Limited Edition. Rates start at $ 25,000 / night for the Branson, $ 19,000 / night at the Oasis and $ 17,500 for the Point.
