Florida woman charged with running over boyfriend on cross-country trip to California – NBC Los Angeles

A Florida woman driving cross-country with her boyfriend in California allegedly let him off on Interstate 10 in Alabama and then intentionally ran him over, killing him, authorities said.

Johana Suarez, 37, of Miami, has been jailed for murder in the death of Henry Hernandez, 48. The man was found dead early Sunday along Interstate 10 west of Mobile, Alabama.

A judge on Tuesday declined to set bail for Suarez after prosecutors said she had no connection to the area and was threatening to flee, media reported. But the decision could be reconsidered at a hearing on Thursday.

The two were heading west for California, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. Along the way, they had a fight, and Hernandez got out of the vehicle with his things a few miles from Alabama.

Suarez drove away, then turned around and was traveling west in the eastbound lanes when she hit the victim, the sheriff’s department said.

Evidence from the vehicle’s computer system showed the car was traveling at 73 mph upon impact. authorities said.

Suarez was not injured in the crash. She did not immediately have an attorney who could speak on her behalf.
