Everything is crazy when Carol Beckert, Helen Connel and Therese Hollinger are together.
The three ladies took an overnight trip to South Dakota to celebrate Carol’s 79th birthday.
âWhen we have all of these great friends that we’ve been together with all this time, it just gets better and better every year,â Beckert said.
The ladies live at CountryHouse, a memory care facility in Dickinson that takes residents on trips from time to time.
This time they got a cabin in the Black Hills where they enjoyed a fondue, relaxed in a hot tub, decorated Christmas cookies, and even painted.
Life Enrichment Coordinator Amanda Wilson has taken the trip and says she loves to see women go out and have fun.
âWhen you take them on these outings, they’re so young at heart that everyone gets a stomach ache from laughing. It doesn’t matter if you don’t remember the next day at that point they enjoyed it and they were happy so for me I have literally the best job in the world, âWilson said.
Volunteer Jaxson Maas also made the trip, shoveling a path of snow wherever the women went. He shared his favorite part.
âNot just to be stuck in CountryHouse, but to really enjoy their life and not just stay at CountryHouse for their birthdays and live their best life,â Maas said.
Although women’s next birthday isn’t for a few months, they celebrate being together every day.
âIt was great, we had a great time. Like they say on TV, everyone had a great time, âBeckert said.
The first time CountryHouse took residents on an overnight trip since the pandemic began was in February of this year, after they had all been fully vaccinated.
