Featuring local traders, pop-up brew bars, takeaway stalls and a stacked entertainment scene, the new monthly event will come from Manchester’s street food festival favourite, Grub.

Working with Manchester City Council, Grub’s new carnival will bring top local food traders to every corner of the region – appearing in a new Greater Manchester location each month.

The first event will take place outside the old covered market in Wythenshawe Saturday July 23, with street food stalls from non-traditional dumpling purveyors Desert Island Dumplings, burger purveyors Rad Burger and Italian foodie Il Forno.

Seven workers killed, 10 injured in Belagavi accident | Latest India News Sun, 26 Jun 2022 19:08:42 +0000

At least seven workers were killed and 10 others were injured in Belagavi district, Karnataka, about 500 km from Bangalore, after the vehicle they were traveling in was involved in an accident on Sunday.

All of the dead were workers traveling from Gokak to Belagavi, Karnataka Labor Minister Shivaram Hebbar said.

The accident happened when the multi-utility vehicle (MUV) they were traveling in overturned in the village of Kanabaragi near Belagavi, an official familiar with the developments said.

“Seven workers were killed when their cruiser vehicle crashed near Belagavi. Those of the deceased who have Department of Labor cards will receive 5 lakh from Karnataka Building And Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. The other four will receive 3 lakh for humanitarian reasons,” Hebbar said.

The incident highlighted the problem of vehicles overloading passengers. In rural Karnataka, it is not uncommon to see vehicles taking more than their real capacity, sometimes speeding up on highways as workers depend on these modes of transport for their daily income.

Reacting to the news, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “It is most tragic that seven people lost their lives in the road accident near Belagavi.”

“Many are seriously injured. Arrangements have been made to treat the injured free of charge. It was decided to distribute 5 lakh as solatium for each of the families of those who were killed and another 2 lakh each from Deputy District Commissioner. The injured would be treated free of charge by the government,” the chief minister said on Sunday.

Earlier this month, 11 people were injured after a state government-run passenger bus collided with a truck in Karnataka’s Vijayanagara district on Wednesday morning, the fifth major accident in the ‘state this year, police said. It is the sixth major accident reported in Karnataka this year, and 26 people have so far lost their lives in road accidents, according to police data.

The previous accident was reported in the Kalburgi district on June 3, where seven people died. In the accident reported on May 22 in Dharwad, eight people were killed. Prior to the Dharwad crash, a multi-purpose vehicle rammed a tree near the Hubballi-Dharwad area, killing at least eight people and seriously injuring 13 others on May 21. Four people died and more than 25 others were injured after an overloaded bus overturned. in Pavagada in Tumkuru district on March 22, HT reported.

Time-Traveling Cher Show Serves Up Shot After Shot Thu, 23 Jun 2022 09:04:21 +0000

The Dear Show – Theater Royal, Plymouth

I’m sure we could all sing along to a Cher hit or two and can probably also describe one of the star’s most eye-catching outfits that has become synonymous with her. She’s just always been there – always surprising us, morphing over the decades like a time-traveling chameleon, breaking the mold and most often speaking languages over the past six decades.

And do we realize how much she accomplished during that time? Over 100 million record sales, an Academy Award, an Emmy, a Grammy, three Golden Globes and an Oscar to boot.

This musical retraces the time spent on the life and career of the diva and on the men who have gone through the years. Many had great influences on her life, including her first husband Sonny Bono who launched her music career and fashion designer Bob Mackie who produced some of her most memorable costumes.

But probably no one has influenced her more than her mother Georgia, it seems, who started her on the path to independence with her no-prisoner attitude and led her down the path of fighting the prejudice and resistance to those who misjudged her. Written by Tony-Award winner Rick Elice and first opened on Broadway in 2018, this production is the European premiere of The Cher Show and is directed by Arlene Philips with energetic choreography by Oti Mabuse.

It has all the big numbers you’d expect and a lot that I didn’t necessarily associate with Cher. Songs that are embedded in my psyche, many of them having been turned into dance hits in recent years, but I had never recorded that they were songs by Cher. The Beat Goes on and Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) for example provided some of the most slick and dramatic moments in the series which I loved.

The Cher Show at the Theater Royal in Plymouth

I thought for a while that some new material had been written specifically for the musical but in fact it was a lot of his older 60s music that I hadn’t heard like You Better Sit Down Kid that was written by Sonny Bono as a father explaining divorce to his children. The story of this woman nicknamed the “Queen of Reinvention” is told by three versions of herself embodying three stages of her life by describing them as innocence (Babe), confidence (Lady) and experience (Star).

The three Chers were excellent but Danielle Steers as Lady provided me with the most believable of the night and gave the most power and passion to recreate her unique sound. Jake Mitchell as Bob Mackie was cheerful, and the chemistry of Sonny (Lucas Rush) and Babe (Jasmine Jules Andrews) was adorable and later emotional with Star (Debbie Kurup).

But with 35 issues, it almost takes too long and we race through the years with no real end that needed something bigger. Some sound issues on opening night were also disappointing. Cher fans will no doubt love it, but for those of us who aren’t, it’s a fun illustration of an incredible life lived in the spotlight.

The Cher Show runs at Plymouth’s Theater Royal until Saturday 25 June.

]]> Travelers Rest launches database to tell slave stories Sat, 18 Jun 2022 21:09:00 +0000

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) – There are June 19 celebrations all over middle Tennessee this weekend. But on Saturday morning there was a unique opportunity at Rest house and museum of historical travelers for some Nashville natives to trace a piece of their own history.

“The original part was built in 1799; it’s the oldest house in Nashville still open to the public,” said Chad Burgess, one of Travelers Rest’s tour guides.

For those who love history, it’s hard to pass up the opportunity to travel back in time.

“You can come in,” said Amy Grubbs, another tour guide. “These are the original floors.”

For generations, the staff of Travelers Rest have shared insight into the life of the Overton family. But maybe not the full picture.

“Telling a complete story is really essential,” said Katie O’Bryan, executive director of Travelers Rest.

Just down from the lavish Plantation House is a much smaller building called the Weaving House. On the walls are the names, but not the faces, of the other Overtons.

“When the judge died, he left in his death inventory a list of the 53 people who were allegedly enslaved here during his time, and we have their names, their ages – which is really, really rare for a site history to have access,” O’Bryan said.

Although it might be hard to believe, the little snippets they have on each person took a lot of work to uncover.

“Bills of sale, fugitive listings, even personal correspondence that the judge and his son had with others, like Andrew Jackson,” she said.

This work has now inspired a new mission. They just took a list of names and ages and turned it into an online database.

“A person’s age, a little snippet of their story, and then the source,” O’Bryan said.

Their hope is that families who hope to trace their own history will find it and use it.

“Someone could be sitting in their living room halfway around the world or halfway across our country and coming up with something,” she said.

In turn, maybe – just maybe – they will have a clearer picture of who these people were.

“We hope they will check out our website and that this database will inspire people who might have information or even think they might have something that might be relevant to contact us so we can work to keep adding information about this resource tool,” O’Bryan said.

When people step back in time, the staff at Travelers Rest think they deserve the whole story.

“I hope, frankly, that this will only spur continued efforts to tell these stories. I hope everyone realizes that these are stories that need to be told every day,” she said. .

There is a Google document of the database available for viewing on line.

Arsenal sign €40m deal with Fábio Vieira as player travels to London Thu, 16 Jun 2022 14:52:06 +0000

The news comes from Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepúlveda:

Translated, and without emojis, it says: “EXCLUSIVE. Fábio Vieira will be a @Arsenal player. There is already an agreement between @FCPorto and #Arsenal.

“The amount of the termination clause is 40 million euros.

“Fábio Vieira is going to London in the next few hours.”

It is unclear at this stage whether Arsenal have met the full €40m release clause or if they have reached another deal with Porto, and it should be noted that some in the replies to the tweet above Above claim that Vieira’s release clause is actually 50 million euros.

This was later reinforced when Fabrizio Romano got involved in things:

The 22-year-old is touted as one of the best young talents to ever come through at Porto with comparisons made to Bruno Fernandes, although those who have watched him regularly believe he is a player who will become many, many better. than Manchester United man.

There has been little to no noise around this player or any connection to Arsenal before that.

Aged 22 at the end of May, Vieira is under contract until 2025 and has scored seven goals, with 16 assists, in 39 games.

He is currently valued at around £22.5m, with some saying even at €40m he would be a steal.

Traveling artists are feeling the burn of rising gas prices Sun, 12 Jun 2022 22:16:00 +0000

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) — As everyday drivers continue to feel the impact of record pump prices, traveling entertainers in the Bluefield area say their situation is no better.

“I will probably be out maybe two or three, maybe four months a year. A little spaced out, but it could be much longer. It used to take a lot longer,” said Denver Boyer, co-owner of The Great American Entertainment Company. “Coming here from Texas costs what it would have cost last year to go coast to coast, and that’s a huge difference… If it was like this all over the country, I don’t know, we might not be going to many places.

Boyer said the current situation is difficult, but he plans to get through it without changing his schedule. Eric Noel, a director of Drew Exposition at the Cole Chevy Mountain Festival shared Boyer’s sentiment, but added his additional dilemma of an inability to change prices accordingly.

“We can’t raise our prices much, they’ve already been announced with the committee here and everything,” Noel said. “They’ve been advertising for months, and you know, we’re getting into our 4th of July spot, you know, diesel’s probably going to be $6 or more. And they’ve already been advertising it, pre-sale tickets, so there’s not much, we can’t really change it at this stage of the game.”

Noel said he and his crew make about 24 different stops each year, from March to November. He has worked in the entertainment business for more than 30 years and said he had never seen gas as such a big issue before.
